It’s the aftermath of the holidays: wrapping paper everywhere, taking down the trees, and TONS of leftovers.
And if your family is like mine, you probably had a lot of relatives over around the holidays. Our annual New Year’s Day party was a big hoopla full of relatives, food, and relatives who gave food to my dog.
My dog is a Cocker Spaniel and he is a small dog with a sensitive stomach. He has suffered the wrath of the table scraps the last few days and has inspired me to do a little research on what your dog can and absolutely cannot have.
Most people food is not good for your dog! Many dogs have stomachs of steel, but this still doesn’t mean that they should be fed too much people food at once or on a regular basis. If you are going to let your dog have people food treats, try to stick to famous dog trainer Cesar Milan’s list of approved people-food for dogs:
- Peanut butter. **Raw, unsalted butter is the best way to go.
- Cooked chicken.
- Cheese. **Careful with this one, don’t overfeed! Stick with low-fat options.
- Baby carrots.
- Yogurt.
- Salmon.
- Pumpkin.
- Eggs.
- Green Beans.
- Apple Slices.
- Oatmeal.
These foods are actually good for your dogs in many ways! So if your dog is whining and you are just convinced to throw him a table scrap, make sure it’s one of the healthy options from this list!
