Special Breed Day - Bulldog

Today was Bulldogs are Beautiful Day, a day that celebrates (you guessed it) bulldogs!

So, as a celebration of "Bulldogs are Beautiful Day" we're bringing back the breed feature for the lovely bulldog.

Part of the non-sporting group, the Bulldog was officially recognized by the AKC in 1886, so it's been around for quite a while. It's origin comes from the British Isles and the name "bull" comes from the dog's use in the sport of bull baiting, which, unfortunately, was popular when the bulldog first became popular in the early 1800's until it was outlawed.

All of this sporting gave the Bulldog its stocky build that we love today. And now, the Bulldog is a popular family pet. Don't judge a book by its cover because despite its muscular build and semi-aggressive look, the Bulldog has a very sweet temperament. Their disposition is know as kind, resolute, and courageous!

Because of this temperament, Bulldogs are actually great for the family, and especially for kids. In a poll by the AKC, Bulldogs received a 94% approval rating for kids and 90% for other pets. They're also known to be cuddly and attached, which lessons the chance of them venturing out of the yard without someone with them.

Celebrity Bulldogs:

- Large, Michael Jackson's Bulldog

- Jacques, Brad Pitt's Bulldog

- Coco, David and Victoria Beckham's Bulldog
