Five Tips for Introducing Your Dog to Their Fresh Patch

Just starting out with Fresh Patch? If you are, you'll want to make sure your pup has as easy of a transition to using it as possible. Here are a few tips on how to introduce your dog to their new Fresh Patch.

1. Pick a Quiet Time for Introduction

When first teaching your pup to learn to use their new Fresh Patch, pick a quiet time when there aren't many distractions around. The more hustle and bustle there is around your house, the more likely your dog is to get distracted from the task at hand: their Fresh Patch!

2. Stick with One Spot

When you pick a spot for the Fresh Patch, make sure that you stick with it. This consistency will help your dog when first learning to use it. If you move it around too much, your dog might get confused and might have an accident.

3. "Walk" Your Pet to the Fresh Patch

Just like you would take your pup on a walk, do the same, but inside! Put their leash on and walk them over to their new potty. This will mimic the standard "potty" time, and will help them more easily understand that their Fresh Patch is a potty time option.

4. Use Repeat Commands

In order to make the learning process easier on your pup, use familiar commands. If you say "Go potty" or "Potty time" to signal to your pup that it's time for them to use the bathroom outside, use the same commands for your Fresh Patch inside. This helps them associate the fresh patch of grass with where they typically use the potty.

5. Incentivize Them

Once your pup starts using the Fresh Patch for their potty, reward them! Giving them their favorite treat will help incentivize them to keep using the Fresh Patch. Give them a reward the first few times they use it. After that, once they're used to it, you can wean them off the treats.
