The Streets of Spain Turn to Dogs!

Have you ever been in the street with 3,500 dogs? No? Well, this weekend in Spain, you could have been!

The fifth year of "Perroton" took place in the streets of Madrid today. Translated to "Dogathon" in English, Spain throws this annual celebration for overall doggy awareness!

Perroton sets out to raise awareness about animal cruelty and encourage dog adoption. It's one of the largest and most unique events of its kind in the whole world.

James Costos, U.S. Ambassador, even received an honorary award at Perroton for America's continued effort to fight animal cruelty. He was excited for the event, and even tweeted a picture of him and his pooch, Greco. He said both him and Greco would run to "highlight the work of the US government against animal cruelty" and that he did! He and his partner ran the Perroton with their dog, Greco, along with 3,500 other pets and owners.

Spain isn't bad at at their fight against animal cruelty, either! It has extremely strict punishments for animal cruelty, even jail penalties. They throw Perroton every year to remind Spain citizens how much they prioritize their pets

Marathons are popular, especially in America. And a lot of marathons are for a good cause! That's the why the Perroton was such a success, because it combined the ever-popular marathon and a good doggy cause!
