Tips on Finding the Perfect Pet Sitter

When you go on vacation, you want to be able to relax. But how can you relax if you don't know if you pup is in good hands? Here are some tips on finding the perfect pet sitter - so that you know what to look for when it comes time for your next trip away.

Questions to Ask Yourself

At Home or At *Their* Home?

Something to ask yourself before you settle on a pet sitter: would you rather have them come to your house to look after your pup, or would you rather have your pup go to their house? The answer to this might change depending on how lonely your pup gets.

What's My Budget?

Know your budget before you find a pet sitter, including the minimum and maximum you're willing to pay. Minimum is important to consider, too, especially because if someone charges a very low rate, it might not mean that you'll be getting top-quality care. You should also browse and see what the average dog care cost in your area is and help base your budget off of that.

Does My Dog Have Special Needs?

If your dog needs medication administered to them or has special diet needs, be sure to find somebody who has experience with this or is willing to learn. You shouldn't compromise on your pup's safety and health, so consider this when looking for the right person.

How to Find a Pet Sitter

Utilize Technology

There's an app for that - literally! Apps and websites like Rover and Care are an easy way to cast a wide net when looking for a pet sitter. These websites also have search engines with filter so that you can narrow down your search. You can browse based on price, availability, and whether or not the sitter will come to your house or if your dog will go to theirs. This will help you find someone if you're not sure where to start looking.

Ask Friends

Do your friends have pets? Probably! So, ask them what they do when they go out of town. Do they have a specific dog sitter that they use? Sometimes word-of-mouth advice is the best you can get, especially because you likely trust your friends' opinions. Even better, you can ask your friends if they are interested in pet sitting for you, since you know and trust them.

Until the time when our dogs are allowed to vacation everywhere with us, we'll just have to leave them at home! So, let's make sure they're happy by finding the perfect pet sitter.
