Best Dogs for the Country Life

We've told you the best dogs for cities and small apartments, but what about country living? If you live in a more rural area, here's a list of dog breeds that would best fit your lifestyle.

Australian Shepherd

Australian Shepherds are a popular breed, and they're perfect for the farm. Whether you have farm animals that need to be herded or you're just looking for an active pup to run around with you while you're outside, Australian Shepherds are the one for you.

Labrador Retriever

Labrador Retrievers are one of the most easygoing breeds, so they're perfect for nearly any environment. While they initially were bred to retrieve game (hence the name), they're also happy to just stick by your side. These dogs love being stimulated by different activities, so if you have lots of chores to do around the yard, they'll be up for helping you or just hanging out.

Great Pyrenees

Their name is "great" for a reason. Great Pyrenees are large dogs with thick coats. They tolerate cold temperatures well, so if you're living in the a colder environment, they'll be happy. With grooming, they'll be happy in a warmer environment as well. Since these are such big dogs who love to have space to explore, having a large yard can be beneficial for them so that they won't feel cooped up.

Border Terrier

If you love small dogs but have a lot of land, these pups will be the perfect fit. Border Terriers are small, but they still love to run! They are always bounding with energy, and will keep up with a family or will keep up with you around the yard. They also love chasing small prey, so your land and house will be rodent-free!

Coonhound

If you ever read Where the Red Fern Grows, then you're familiar with Coonhounds. If you live a country lifestyle that involves hunting, Coonhounds are the ones for the job. They also have short hair that is easy to groom, so you can spend more time having fun with them.
