Dog Navigates Hurricane Harvey

Over the weekend, southern Texas took a devastating blow from Hurricane Harvey. The storm brought over 50 inches of rain to many towns in southeast Texas, which left streets, homes, and businesses flooded. Over 300,000 homes went without power.

The flooding resulting in a lot of damage, and the people of south Texas had their survival skills put to the test.

Someone who specifically showed survival skills amidst the storm? Otis the golden retriever mix.

Otis was spotted on the wet streets of Sinton, Texas, carrying a large bag of dog food. A passerby, Tiele Dockens, saw him and took a picture of the resourceful pup. She captioned it: "This dog is walking around Sinton TX carrying a[sic] entire bag of dog food with him. LOL #refugee."

"LOL" indeed. Dockens found out that Otis belonged to Sinton resident Salvador Segovia.

Otis got frightened during the storm and bolted from Segovia's house. However, Segovia knew where he was likely. Otis ventured to the lumber yard that he often visited with Segovia. There, he was able to find the bag of food that the workers at the lumber yard often fed him from. He then took it upon himself to pick up the bag of food and take it home.

That's when Dockens found Otis. Thankfully, Otis found his way home, all with the bag of food!

Be sure to help them feel secure by making them feel comfy in a room without windows. Not every dog is as resourceful as adorable Otis!
