Most Popular Dog Breeds 2017
The year is winding down, so with our last few posts of the year, we'll do a little yearly recap! For this post, we're going to talk about the most popular dog breeds of 2017. What new furry friends found their home most often this year? The American Kennel Club gave us the following (adorable) list:
10. Boxer
We all love Boxers. How could you not? Those adorable faces, their playful personalities: what more could you want? Oh yeah, and they're super loyal.
9. Yorkshire Terriers
Of course, there must be pint-sized pups on the list. Though Yorkies have sat even higher on the list in previous years, they're still in the top ten. Probably because of those tiny little faces (and tails and legs and ears...)
8. Rottweilers
From tiny to titan, the Rottweiler comes in at number 8. Their rise in popularity likely has something to do with their incredibly loyal and loving personalities. While many people view Rottweilers as aggressive, they are more often gentle giants.
7. Poodles
Poodles have always been popular, and perhaps a bit underrated by some. These pups have curly, fluffy hair that doesn't shed! This makes them popular for those who love pups but have allergies.
6. French Bulldog
The French Bulldog is arguably one of the cutest small dogs out there. They're popular for a lot of people because they don't require much exercise. This makes them perfect for on-the-go city dwellers.
5. Beagles
Shiloh, Cats vs. Dogs, The Peanuts: beagles don't only star in movies, but in people's homes! They're adorable, outgoing, and make great family dogs. Of course, they're a bit mischevous, but what dog isn't?
4. Bulldog
Bulldogs have been rising in popularity. Probably because they have everything a dog lover wants in a dog: gentleness, loyalty, and a big personality. There's a reason they're mascots for so many schools!
3. Golden Retriever
Well, duh. Golden Retrievers are the quintessential American dog. Whether it's their shiny long coats, their boundless energy, or their loving personalities, Golden Retrievers are the perfect dog for almost anybody.
2. German Shepherd
This is another obvious one. German Shepherds are famous in America for their guard dog and investigation capabilities, but that's not all they're known for. These conniving pups are intelligent, loving, and active.
1. Labrador Retriever
And at number one is... the Labrador! Labs can be perfect for anybody and any family. They're wonderful with kids, other dogs, and just about anybody. They'll go jogging with you and snuggle up with you on the couch in the same day.
And of course, don't forget the mutts! Mixed breeds have some of the best hearts out there. What are your favorite dog breeds this year?
